A DIY HOMESTEAD PROJECTS GUIDE
THE BENEFITS OF RAMMED EARTH
- Uses on-site soil (or purchased locally) which means it will match your landscape.
- This building method has been used for thousands of years and will last a lifetime.
- Uses only a fraction of the concrete you’d normally use which reduces your carbon footprint.
- Is a stepping to stone to building bigger and more complex projects.
A place to create memories in your backyard
Imagine if you could walk into your backyard and entertain friends or family with a beautiful earth built fire pit and benches. Not only does it look awesome but you’re telling the world that you care about it, by using a natural building method.
How cool is that!
Concrete is an energy intensive material that contributes greatly to greenhouse gas emissions. By building rammed earth, you are cutting your concrete use to the absolute minimum.
You can use on-site earth or purchase it locally and what better way to build small projects that will fit in with your landscape then using what you have on-site.
Rammed earth is a building style that you can use to build small projects like a fire pit or bench and you can even take it a step further and construct entire buildings out of it.
Let me help you with my experience to save time and a whole lot of money so you can have a beautiful finished product.
I’ve made mistakes that cost me a lot of time and money, I don’t want to see you make those same mistakes.
Here’s what I’ll be going over in my Rammed Earth Basics course:
- How to build the proper footers to build the rammed earth fire pit and benches on.
- How to ensure your footers are level and plumb. Plus how to mix and trowel the concrete the right way for rammed earth.
- How to build form work for a beautiful fire pit and benches.
- The correct dirt:sand:concrete ratio to ensure your rammed earth will be strong and last forever.
- How to mix and tamp your earth to get a great finished product.
- How to cap your rammed earth with a concrete/earth mixture to ensure your benches and fire pit last a lifetime.
There is a lot of information about Rammed Earth on the internet. I want to give you a set of crystal clear instructions so that your Rammed Earth projects will dazzle your friends and family.
Building with Rammed Earth does require some physical labor but when you’re sitting down with your loved ones, enjoying a fire on a cool evening, you’ll appreciate all the sweat that went in to it.

Frequently Asked Questions
This depends on what materials and tools you have on hand. For most people the project will cost about $700 in materials and some tools. But many of the material purchases can be reused to do projects with friends or family.
All of the materials and tools we use for Rammed Earth can be easily found at Home Depot, Lowe’s or a local hardware store.
We recommend taking rammed earth projects in small steps to make the workload easier for busy people. Two people can build each bench in about 3 to 4 hours of work. The fire pit will take somewhere between 6-10 hours of work.

Great Course!
I’ve been interested in rammed earth for a while but struggled to find the specifics I needed in order to actually build anything with rammed earth. This course was exactly what I needed and definitely worth every penny! Thanks!

Great project to start with rammer earth. I was interested in the subject for long time, but couldn’t find any good videos about it.
I like how the videos are done with the roles of the expert and someone who really is interested in rammer earth, going through possible fails and mistakes.
I really enjoy it. More courses please!
